Daily Programs

First Day: Lima
Trekkers will arrive in Lima at the airport, and a private vehicle will drive them to the Hotel with an excellent view to the Ocean. In the hotel room you will be welcomed with fresh flowers and dry fruits waiting for you. If your flight arrives late your massage will be postponed till the next day. If you arrive on an early flight, you will have a choice of an a la carte dinner, or room service.

Second Day: Lima
After breakfast, a private guide will take you on a tour visit of colonial and modern Lima. On the tour you will see cathedrals dating back from 1654, the main square which still houses the original bronze fountain built in 1650, and the San Francisco Convent and its catacombs. Lima, known as the city of the kings, is one of the very few South American cities that preserve the colonial past. The city of kings was also home to the Spanish viceroy during the time of the Spanish colonialists. The tour will also include a visit to the residential areas of San Isidro and Miraflores, before stopping at Larco Mar to enjoy a view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Lunch on the tour will be an international renowned Rosa Nautica, the best seafood restaurant in Lima. After lunch, you will visit a museum of your choice. After visiting the museum you will return to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing 60 minute massage (for two people). The message will relax your body, and prepare you for a delicious dinner at the Huaca Pucllana Restaurant. Huaca Pucllana is located in an actual pre-Inca archaeological site, and next to a 1500 year old adobe pyramid. The food at Huaca Pucllana is exquisite, and the waiters will help you choose among the restaurant favorites, or some Chilean and Argentinean classics meals also.

Third Day: Lima -Cusco
In the morning you will be driven to the airport for a flight to Cusco. After the hour long flight to Cuzco, you will be driven to a five star hotel. The next morning you will take a leisurely walk around the ancient capital of the Incas. A guide will be available or if you prefer a private walk this option is also available. After the walk we will go to a nice Peruvian buffet dinner. We will end the day by Peruvian dancers perform us dances for us.

Fourth Day: CUSCO
After breakfast you will go on a tour of the ruins surrounding the Inca capital. You will also get to see the Sacsayhuaman fortress overlooking the city of Cuzco, a pre Inca architectural masterpiece; Kenko, a rock sanctuary whose main attraction is the monolithic altar representing a puma, the red fortress of Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay. After the tour we will have lunch at the La Casona del Inca which is located in the hills above Cuzco with a beautiful view of the city.

Fifth Day: Sacred Valley – Pisac - Ollantaytambo
You will be on a Full-day excursion to the beautiful Urubamba. The Sacred Valley of the Incas, Urubamba is situated between Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Urubamba is an exceptionally fertile valley that was and remains the larder of Cuzco. You will visit the village of Pisac, which was founded during colonial times, and set at the foot of a hill crowned by the remains of an ancient Inca city. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Indians barter their products in the main square and artisans around the area will sell their woven alpaca wool blankets, ponchos, engraved gourds, antique reproductions, and jewelry on those days also. On Sundays, it is also the meeting place for mayors from all the villages in the region. The mayors on Sunday will dress in their traditional costumes to attend morning mass. After a buffet lunch, you will visit Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town that was not defeated by the Spanish with an opportunity to explore the ruins which towers above the town. Late afternoon you will return to Cuzco and while on route you will visit the traditional market of Chinchero. After wards you will return to your hotel in Pisac.

Sixth Day: Ollantaytambo - Wayllabamba
After breakfast, you will be driven to Chilca by a private car where you will meet with your Quechua porters, and prepare for the Inca Trail. After some breathing and stretching exercises, you will start your four day trek that awaits you. During the trek you will cross over the turbulent Vilcanota River, that has magnificent views of Nevado Veronica (5,900m/19,000ft), and continue along the trek admiring the Llactapata archaeological site. You will stop at the Huayllabamba River for lunch. All lunches will be in very large dining tents with outstanding three course meals freshly prepared by your chef. After lunch, we will visit the archaeological sites of Patallacta, Qente, the valley of Cusichaca, and also see the magical Polylepsis forest before continuing the hike. To help us focus on the true nature of our trek our personal porters will be playing the traditional Peruvian songs for us. We would like to also encourage you to talk our porters to learn a little about their ancient customs and ways or life. Our hiking today will last approximately 7 hours. Upon arriving to our campsite, we shall enjoy a relaxing massages and a warm shower to help sooth away any aches and pains. We will have Dinner after listening to the intriguing stories and legends from our Quechua porters.

Seventh Day: Wayllabamba – Pacaymay
You will start early and the hike today will be the most demanding day of the entire trek, and we shall gain considerable altitude. We will see outstanding views to the east of the Huayanay peaks, and to the west of the rugged Vilcabamba Range. After breakfast, we will begin the climb up through the first pass at 4200 m/13,750 feet at Warmiwanusqa. Passing 3 ecological zones such as the Yunga, Quechua and Puna, we shall ascend 1000 meters in 5 hours. Our porter's enticing music will help us to marvel at the views rather than the difficult ascent. Lunch will be taken before the final two sections of ascent. Upon reaching the summit of Dead Woman's Pass, we shall celebrate our achievement by paying homage to the Apus or mountain gods, before descending into camp. A Massage and a warm shower will be awaiting you before a dinner near Pacaymayu. Our Porters will tell more secret myths will help you understand the significance of the Apus, or mountain gods. Overnight camping on the trail.

Eighth Day: Pacaymayu - Winayhuayna
After breakfast, we will begin the ascent of the second pass; although the trek is still demanding, this hike is easier than the previous day's ascent. During the hike we will visit the famous archaeological site of Runquraqay. We will also walk through the restored town site of Sayaqmarka ("Town in a Steep Place"), and explore the Sayaqmarka Ruins, and also the fabulous cloud forest which is now all around us. The third pass of the Inca Trail in this section is a long white granite roadway with some ascents, and descents traversing through a thickly forested mountainside. We will finally descend to the magnificent archaeological site of Phuyupatamarka ("Cloud Level Town") where a fine lunch will await us. After lunch we will begin the decent to Winaywayna, an outstanding Inca complex built into the mountainside. After relaxing at Winaywayna, we shall enjoy a carefully prepared dinner by our chef. We shall also meet with our porters for the very last time and exchange thanks and talk about the ancient paths upon which we have trekked for the last few days. Overnight camping on the trail.

Nineth Day: Winayhuayna - Machupicchu
You will wake up early in the morning at 4:30 AM for breakfast, and begin the final trek to Intipunku, the first site of the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu. We will descend rapidly from cloud forest into high jungle habitat. Orchids and hummingbirds are commonly seen along this spectacular section of the trail high above the river. We will arrive at Intipunko "Gate of the Sun" to observe the sunrise over Machu Picchu from an elevated vantage point. After the sunrise will then continue down to the royal road and at last the "Lost City of the Incas.” On Arrival to the “Lost City,” we will transfer our belongings to the Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, and we will immediately begin our tour of Machu Picchu. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, Machu Picchu is comprised of stone blocks fitted with masterful precision. Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origin behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants, and a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city holds houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, and all are connected by narrow roads and steps, which is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. We shall visit the Main Plaza, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of Three Windows, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial and finally the burial grounds. After the guided tour, you can enjoy an afternoon of self-exploration and discovery. Accommodation at the Sanctuary Lodge hotel.

Tenth Day: Machupicchu - Cusco
After breakfast, we shall return to the complex for a very different tour of the site. The tour this time around will be with a Shamanic guide. We will experience the ancient offering to Pachamama or the mother earth ritual. Pachamama ritual is what the Incas used to offer Mother Earth and be grateful for all the food that she provides, within the grounds of the Sanctuary. Board the train for Cusco. Reception and transfer to the hotel.

Eleventh Day: Cusco - Lima
After breakfast, you will be driven to the airport for the flight back to Lima, arriving at 9am and your connecting return flight home. (This flight back can be changed to a later flight if required)
